Description

Found by William Glenn of Florida, this Trail Dies-cataloged Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent features light trail lines on the ES of STATES, the word OF, and some letters of EPU at an offset direction of 340 degrees. The near-vertical offset produces trail lines extending at a slight leftward angle from the affected letters. Die markers at Stage B: obverse is MDS with a die dot over the L of LIBERTY and a die dot under the last 9 in the date (not shown in photos); reverse is MDS with a die gouge in the right base of the T in CENT, another smaller die gouge to the right of that T, and two small die dots under the diagonal bar of the N in ONE. The cluster of small die dots and gouges across both faces provides multiple independent attribution points. Struck in copper-plated zinc at 2.5 grams and 19.05 mm during Gasparro's Memorial reverse's fortieth year of production.
