The 1996 (S) Proof Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games Soccer Commemorative Half Dollar is a proof commemorative half dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint. The U.S. Mint produced 112,412 examples. Part of the Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games program, this half dollar celebrates women's soccer. The obverse features two women playing soccer, one kicking the ball, while the reverse displays the mark of the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games featuring the Olympic Flame, Torch, Rings, and '100' for the Centennial. Designed by Richard T. LaRoche/Dean McCullen. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 11.34 grams, 30.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9715. The soccer half dollar commemorates a historic milestone in women's sports and is particularly popular among collectors of women's athletics memorabilia.
