Description
The 1995 (S) Proof Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games Baseball Commemorative Half Dollar is a proof commemorative half dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint. The U.S. Mint produced 118,087 examples. Part of the Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games program, this half dollar celebrates baseball, which was a medal sport at the 1996 Games. The obverse features a batter at the plate with a catcher and umpire behind him, while the reverse displays the logo of the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games on a depiction of a world map centered on the Atlantic Ocean. Designed by Edgar Z. Steever/T. James Ferrell. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 11.34 grams, 30.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9711. The baseball half dollar is a crossover collectible popular with baseball memorabilia collectors as well as numismatists.
