Inaugural entry in the 1994-P Washington Quarter retained cud catalog, RCD-25c-1994P-01R documents a Philadelphia Mint die whose rim-area fragment cracked free on the reverse but stayed lodged in place during continued production. Retained cuds on Washington Quarters are less frequently documented than on Lincoln Cents, reflecting lower production volumes and reduced collector search activity compared to the cent-focused variety community. The reverse features the heraldic eagle motif that John Flanagan designed for the 1932 debut, and retained cuds in this area can affect the eagle, arrows, olive branch, or lettering depending on fragment location.
