1993P-1DER-054T Trail Die Reverse

Description

Trail lines visible to the naked eye are exceptionally uncommon — most trail die varieties require at least 5x to 10x magnification — which makes Jimmy Ehrhart's discovery of 1993P-1DER-054T in Florida noteworthy. The trails extend from the right top corners of the N and E of ONE, displaced at an offset direction of 080 degrees, and are naked eye visible on the examined coin. This indicates an unusually strong trail formation where the residual hubbing impression was deep enough to produce raised lines that catch ambient light at normal viewing distances. The "T" suffix (as opposed to "WS") means trail lines appear without wavy-step deviation in the Memorial staircase. Classified at Stage A in late early die state (LEDS), this is a relatively early capture. Reverse die markers include a die clash in bay 4 and small die gouges in the bottom of bays 10 and 11. No obverse markers were noted. Ehrhart's contribution connects to a southeastern U.S. network of variety specialists who contributed numerous discoveries during the census's most active cataloging period.
