1990-S Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

Recognized in both the CONECA catalog as 1-O-V and the Cherrypickers' Guide as FS-25-1990S-101, this 1990-S Proof Washington Quarter was attributed by the Wexler Team as WDDO-001 and features a strong counterclockwise spread originating from a pivot point at approximately the 11 o'clock position. The doubling is visible on the date, John Flanagan's designer initials, the S mint mark, and slightly on IN GOD WE TRUST. No significant die markers are recorded on either the obverse or reverse, placing the attribution burden entirely on the doubling characteristics. Proof quarters from 1990 were struck at the San Francisco Mint in copper-nickel clad composition with polished dies and multiple strikes at elevated pressure, producing mirror-like fields that showcase die varieties with exceptional clarity.
