Description

Also sourced from a 1985 Uncirculated Mint Set like WDDO-004, WDDO-005 on the 1985 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent shares the extra thickness on the date and slight spread on LIBERTY that characterizes its companion variety, but is a distinct die with its own marker profile. The obverse shows a minuscule die gouge near the rim northeast of the 5, a short die scratch south from the lower I in IN, and a light scratch below the S and T in TRUST. The reverse records die damage southwest of the U in UNITED, a gouge on the diagonal crossbar of the N in UNITED, horizontal scratches through TES in STATES, and die dots in upper Memorial bays 8 and 10. While marker descriptions overlap substantially with WDDO-004, the two are cataloged as separate dies based on precise differences in marker position and geometry observable under high magnification. The extremely minor nature of all markers — noted as essentially marker free — reflects dies in early production stages before significant wear accumulated. Struck at Philadelphia on copper-plated zinc planchets at 2.5 grams and 19mm from the 1985 mintage exceeding 5.65 billion cents (Wexler ID: 1985 1¢ WDDO-005).
