1985-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-022

Description

Displaying a D/D South displacement, WRPM-022 on the 1985-D Lincoln Memorial cent is characterized by numerous die gouges concentrated around the date and mint mark area on the obverse — a cluster dense enough to serve as a primary attribution fingerprint even without isolating each individual feature. The reverse die markers are spread more broadly: a gouge under the E in UNITED, another right of the lower second T in STATES, one inside the lower S in PLURIBUS, and additional gouges above the right roof, in lower bay 7, and below the left Memorial base. This distribution across both the inscription field and the architectural elements of the Memorial creates a multi-zone verification system for authenticators. No CONECA or Coppercoins cross-references have been established, making the Wexler catalog the sole attribution source. The southward displacement places the secondary mint mark impression below the primary punch, requiring examination of the area directly beneath the D for traces of the earlier impression. Struck at Denver on copper-plated zinc planchets at 2.5 grams and 19mm from the 1985 mintage of over 5.65 billion cents (Wexler ID: 1985-D 1¢ WRPM-022).
