1985-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-018

Description

The final entry in the Wexler repunched mint mark catalog for the 1985-D Lincoln Memorial cent, WRPM-018 displays a D/D North displacement — the secondary impression above the primary punch. Two die stages are documented across two different reverse dies. The Stage A obverse shows a die gouge inside the upper 8 in the date, a gouge south of the I in IN, and another behind the truncation of Lincoln's bust. The Stage A reverse carries a distinctive series of die gouges through the RICA in AMERICA — a cluster prominent enough to serve as a primary attribution marker. Stage B retains the same obverse markers but introduces an entirely new reverse die, with multiple die gouges on and above the left Memorial base replacing the original reverse's RICA gouges. This reverse die change, like the one documented on WRPM-006, records the retirement of a worn reverse die during the production run of this obverse. No CONECA or Coppercoins cross-references have been established. Struck on copper-plated zinc planchets at 2.5 grams and 19mm from Denver's 1985 production of over 5.65 billion cents (Wexler ID: 1985-D 1¢ WRPM-018).
