Description

A replacement entry in the Wexler catalog, WRPM-015 on the 1985-D Lincoln Memorial cent was reassigned after the original WRPM-015 die was identified as a duplicate of WRPM-004. The new WRPM-015 documents a distinct die with a notable characteristic: while the doubling is widely spaced, it appears lightly struck in early die state, suggesting the secondary mint mark impression may become difficult to see on worn or later die state coins. This observation serves as a practical warning for cherry-pickers — a coin showing this die in circulated grades might not display obvious repunching. No other catalog cross-references have been established. Additional reference photography was contributed by Brian Ribar to better illustrate the doubling, an example of collector collaboration strengthening the catalog. The replacement history adds provenance: understanding that the original WRPM-015 was merged into WRPM-004 demonstrates the Wexler catalog's self-correcting methodology. Struck on copper-plated zinc planchets at 2.5 grams and 19mm from Denver's 1985 output exceeding 5.65 billion cents (Wexler ID: 1985-D 1¢ WRPM-015).
