1985-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-007
ErrorDescription
Identified by CONECA as RPM #5 and Coppercoins as 1985D-1MM-005, WRPM-007 on the 1985-D Lincoln Memorial cent presents a balanced set of obverse and reverse die markers that together form a comprehensive attribution fingerprint. The obverse carries a die gouge above the left side of the mint mark — positioned close enough to the repunching zone to potentially be confused with the variety itself, requiring careful distinction. Additional obverse markers include a gouge along the lower right edge of the U in TRUST and a light die crack on the lower forehead northeast of the eye. The reverse provides equally specific diagnostics: a vertical die crack on upper column 1, die gouges in the Memorial roof south and southeast of the M in UNUM, a tiny die dot left of the first T in STATES, and a short die scratch running northeast from the lower right edge of the A in STATES. The combination of forehead crack and column 1 crack on opposite sides of the coin gives authenticators confidence when matching specimens to this die pair. Struck on copper-plated zinc planchets at 2.5 grams and 19mm from Denver's 1985 production of over 5.65 billion cents (Wexler ID: 1985-D 1¢ WRPM-007).
