The 1984 (S) Proof Los Angeles Olympiad Commemorative Ten Dollar Gold is a proof commemorative dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint. With a mintage of 48,551, this is a scarce commemorative issue. This $10 gold piece was the first U.S. The obverse features a male and female runner jointly holding an Olympic torch aflame, while the reverse displays a soaring eagle carrying an olive branch and arrows, with thirteen stars above. Designed by John M. Mercanti, James Peed. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 16.72 grams, 26.92 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9616. Beyond its Olympic significance, this coin holds the historic distinction of being the first U.S. gold coin produced in over 50 years.
