Documented by MadDieClashes, this 1984-P Roosevelt Dime displays a straightforward die clash event where the obverse and reverse dies contacted each other without an intervening planchet. The transferred detail creates distinctive ghost-like impressions: part of the torch and laurel leaf from Sinnock's reverse design can be seen clashed just above the motto IN GOD WE TRUST on the obverse, while the D of GOD and Roosevelt's jaw line from the obverse appear clashed into the reverse area between the torch and the laurel leaf. This reciprocal transfer is characteristic of typical die clashes — both dies simultaneously receive impressed design elements from their counterpart during the clash event. The 1984-P Roosevelt Dime was produced at the Philadelphia Mint during a period of high-volume circulation coinage production. Die clashes on Roosevelt Dimes produce a recognizable pattern because of the relationship between the obverse portrait and the reverse torch-and-olive-branch design: the torch's narrow vertical profile and the curved laurel leaves create distinctive transferred shapes that experienced collectors can identify without difficulty.
