Description

Documented as the fifth doubled die obverse attributed for the 1984 Philadelphia Lincoln cent, DDO-005 exhibits light spread on the date, the lower bust, and the motto WE TRUST. Light spread denotes a subtle but confirmable shift between the primary and secondary hub impressions — enough to produce a thickened or slightly shadowed appearance on affected elements without the pronounced separation characteristic of stronger doubled dies. The involvement of three distinct obverse zones — the date at the lower right, the truncation of Lincoln's bust at center, and portions of IN GOD WE TRUST along the upper obverse — suggests a rotational component to the misalignment during hubbing, as different areas of the die face received varying degrees of displacement depending on their distance from the pivot axis. Die markers UVC-2575 and DMR-008 serve as supplementary diagnostics to confirm the attribution.
