1984-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-011

Description

The eleventh Wexler-attributed repunched mint mark for the 1984 Denver Mint Lincoln Memorial cent, WRPM-011 shows D/D Tilted (Rotated) repunching with richly detailed die markers. Cataloged as Wexler 1984-D 1¢ WRPM-011, the tilted secondary impression indicates rotation between punch applications — a direction more challenging to detect than simple cardinal offsets because the remnant overlaps the final position at an angle. Obverse diagnostics include gouges northwest of the mint mark, a small dot-like gouge under the chin and nose, a light gouge in the hair below TR in TRUST, a gouge above the hair tip under R in TRUST, three strong gouges on the jacket west of the lower bow tie, a gouge below BE in LIBERTY, and damage along column 12's right edge. On the reverse, a light gouge appears at the rim under N in ONE, and heavy abrasion lines run southwest-to-northeast above ONE CENT. The three strong jacket gouges near the bow tie are immediately apparent under moderate magnification, making this one of the more readily confirmable RPMs in the series. Denver produced approximately 5.57 billion 1984 cents on copper-plated zinc planchets at 2.5 grams. D/D Tilted (Rotated) Die Markers: Obverse: Die gouges NW of mint mark. Small die gouge (dot) under chin and under the nose. Light die gouge in the hair centered below the TR in TRUST. Die gouge just above the tip of Lincoln’s hair under R in TRUST. Three strong die gouges on jacket west of lower bow tie. Die gouge well below BE in LIBERTY. Reverse: Light die gouge at rim under N in ONE.
