1984-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-003

Description

Positioned distinctly from its cataloged counterparts, RPM-003 for the 1984 Denver Mint Lincoln Memorial cent shows a D/D North repunching where the mint mark sits higher than the placement observed on RPM-002. This northward displacement distinguishes RPM-003 from RPM-001's eastward shift and RPM-002's positioning, providing a clear directional diagnostic. Three die stages are documented: Stage A with both obverse and reverse in early die state, Stage B in mid die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C in late die state (unconfirmed). The early die state in Stage A indicates that the freshest examples should show the repunching at maximum clarity, with the secondary D visible as a distinct shadow to the north of the final position. Die markers UVC-3371 and DMR-007 provide further confirmation beyond the repunching direction. The higher mint mark position relative to RPM-002 reflects the inherent variability of the hand-punching process, where each die received its mint mark individually. Attributed by VarietyVista.
