Description

Cataloged on a proof striking, the 1983-S Kennedy Half Dollar DDO-002 exhibits light spread across a distinctive set of elements: the L of LIBERTY, IN GOD, the numerals 19 of the date, and the upper front hair of Kennedy's portrait — an anatomical diagnostic area where Gilroy Roberts' sculpted hair detail amplifies even subtle hub displacement. The upper front hair above Kennedy's forehead consists of closely spaced engraved lines, and light doubling here creates visible broadening of those fine parallel strands. The L of LIBERTY, IN GOD, and 19 provide inscription-based confirmation points. Die markers UVC-549 and DMR-003 identify this working die across three stages: Stage A with both obverse and reverse in early die state, Stage B tentatively in mid-die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C tentatively in late die state (unconfirmed). As a San Francisco Mint proof, this coin was struck on polished planchets with polished dies in copper-nickel clad composition. Proof Kennedy Half Dollars have been produced at San Francisco since 1968. Examine the upper front hair above Kennedy's forehead for the light spread, then verify at L of LIBERTY, IN GOD, and 19 of the date.
