CU-25c-1983P-10R Cud

Description

Positioned at 10 o'clock on the reverse, the CU-25c-1983P-10R is a cud error on the 1983 Philadelphia Washington quarter documented by Cuds on Coins. Unlike its obverse counterpart (CU-25c-1983P-01B), which shows a die break on the portrait side, this cud appears on the heraldic eagle reverse near the upper left area of the design. Finding two distinct cud errors on the same date and mint — one obverse and one reverse — is notable, as it indicates that multiple dies used for the 1983-P production run suffered rim fractures. The 10R position places the break near the bundle of arrows or olive branch held by the eagle. As with all cuds, the affected area displays a raised, featureless mass of metal where the broken die segment could no longer impress the design. Reverse cuds on Washington quarters are somewhat less commonly preserved than obverse cuds, making documented examples valuable for die-break researchers.
