Description

Bearing an unusually rich set of die markers, WDDO-003 documents a Class V clockwise spread pivoting from approximately 4 o'clock on the 1983 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent, producing doubling on LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST. Cross-referenced as Cherrypickers FS-01-1983-103 (035.2), Breen #2309, CONECA 3-O-V, Crawford CDDO-003, and Wexler WDDO-003, this variety connects to every major attribution framework in American numismatics. The obverse die markers are detailed: a die scratch running north-northeast above the B of LIBERTY, a die scratch running south-southwest from the left of T in LIBERTY, and die clash marks at the left side of Lincoln's neck and shoulder — the latter indicating a clashed die event where obverse and reverse dies struck each other without a planchet between them. The reverse shows extensive deterioration, described as heavily abraded with numerous die scratches, die cracks from the lower left and lower right of the Memorial to the rim, and the lower E letters in ONE CENT appear very thin from abrading. This combination of hub doubling, die clash evidence, and advanced deterioration makes WDDO-003 among the most diagnostically complex of all 1983 DDO varieties. Attribution by Wexler Team.
