1983-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-002

Description

Showing a D over D with counter-clockwise rotation (D/D Rotated CCW), the 1983-D Lincoln Memorial cent RPM-002 captures a repunched mintmark where the D punch was applied to the die a second time at a rotated angle, leaving traces of the initial impression visible beneath and around the final mintmark position. Die markers UVC-2567 and DMR-003 provide precise identification coordinates. Stage A documents the early die state with die scratches below the E of WE on the obverse and early die state on the reverse. Stage B progresses to early-to-mid die state (EMDS) on the obverse, with light die chips developing on memorial column number 1, EMDS die chips emerging, and die scratches running north-south appearing on the reverse — progressive deterioration that helps attributors determine specimen die state. Stage C reaches late die state (LDS), currently unconfirmed, where accumulated wear has further altered the die's surface. The counter-clockwise rotation of the second D punch creates a distinctive angular displacement visible as traces of the initial D extending beyond the final mintmark's boundaries, distinguishing RPM-002 from RPM-001's straight repunching.
