Surpassing the forty-entry mark for the 1982 Philadelphia cent, CU-1C-1982-41 opens a new chapter in what has become one of the most extensively documented cud censuses in all of Lincoln Memorial cent numismatics. This standard cud appears on the Bronze Small Date subtype — the pre-transition 95% copper alloy at 3.1 grams paired with the more compact date punch — a combination whose limited production window makes every documented die failure especially noteworthy. The Bronze Small Date occupied a narrow manufacturing interval at Philadelphia: it required both the small date punch tooling and the original copper planchet supply, a pairing that existed only briefly before zinc blanks replaced the bronze stock entirely. That compressed timeline means fewer dies served this subtype, yet the census continues to record new breaks, each one verified against all preceding entries to confirm a geometrically unique fracture position on the die rim.
