Description
The 1979 (P) Jefferson Nickel is a nickel from the Philadelphia Mint, belonging to the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. The U.S. Mint produced 463.2 million examples, making this the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 59% of production. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. Standard production continued as the Susan B. Anthony dollar was introduced in a different denomination. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792.
