Description

Denver-minted in copper-nickel clad, DDO-002 on the 1977-D Kennedy Half Dollar presents light spread on WE TRUST and TY of LIBERTY. The doubling is concentrated on the motto and the terminal letters of LIBERTY, leaving the remainder of the obverse legend and date unaffected — a pattern suggesting a small-magnitude hub displacement whose effect was most perceptible on elements positioned within a specific zone of the die face. Cataloged as UVC-234 with DMR-003, the variety has been included in the VarietyVista census. The 1977-D Kennedy Half Dollar was produced in the standard copper-nickel clad composition adopted for the series beginning in 1971 after the 40% silver era ended in 1970. Denver-mint Kennedy halves from the late 1970s saw moderate collector interest, as the denomination was increasingly absent from everyday commerce and primarily entered circulation through bank-wrapped rolls. Light spread on WE TRUST and TY is best confirmed by examining the letter terminals and serifs, where the secondary impression emerges as a slight thickening or shadow alongside the primary design.
