Description

Cataloged as UVC-584 and DMR-003, this repunched mintmark on a 1975-S Proof Roosevelt Dime displays an S/S North displacement — the S mintmark was punched into the die twice, with the first impression positioned slightly north of the final strike. Three die stages are listed but all remain unconfirmed: Stage A in early die state, Stage B in mid die state, and Stage C in late die state. Hand-punched mintmarks on Proof dies were subject to the same human variability as business strike dies, and the 1975-S RPM-002 adds to the pattern of northward-displaced repunched mintmarks observed across multiple Proof Roosevelt Dime dates of the early-to-mid 1970s. The 1975-S Proof dime was issued during a period when no 1975-dated coins entered general circulation — all 1975-dated quarter and half dollar production carried the 1776-1976 Bicentennial dates instead, though dimes and cents continued with their standard dating. Struck in clad composition at the San Francisco Mint. Attributed by VarietyVista.
