1974-S Variety WMDO-001

Description

This master die doubling obverse variety appears on the 1974-S Proof Eisenhower Dollar struck in copper-nickel clad composition, distinguishing it from the silver proof counterpart that shares the same WMDO-001 designation. Very close Class II doubling towards the center is visible on LIBERTY, a characteristic imparted at the master die stage rather than the working die level. Because this doubling originated on the master die, its markers will vary across the different working dies produced from that master, making each working die a unique combination of shared master die doubling and individual die-specific characteristics. The 1974-S clad proof was produced for standard proof sets sold by the United States Mint, struck on copper-nickel clad planchets identical in composition to circulation strikes.
