Description

WMHR-001 on the 1974-P Washington Quarter marks the final year of documented Philadelphia Mint business strikes from the SD-1 Working Master Hub Reverse, catalogued under CONECA SD-1-R-II-C+VI. The SD-1 master hub had served quarter die production continuously since 1968 — seven years during which any working die produced from it carried the identical pointed-leaf diagnostic and center-directed spread on QUARTER DOLLAR and the lower wreath. Working dies with the exact same doubling are known to exist for the years 1968 through 1974 from all three Mints including proof coins. Differences in the appearance of the doubling will result from master hub wear, master die wear, working hub wear, working die wear, as well as coin wear. A second similar doubled master hub exists for this time period with the main difference being the leave directly to the left of the arrowheads. On the second doubled master hub that leave is rounded at the top.
