Description
As the primary Wexler-cataloged RPM for the 1973-S proof Roosevelt Dime, this San Francisco Mint variety was struck exclusively for collector proof sets. Cross-referenced as None known; Wexler Variety ID: 1973-S 10¢ Pr WRPM-001. Obverse die markers include an E/W die scratch inside the ear, a large weak die gouge halfway between the ear and the edge of the neck, and a die gouge to the left of the B in LIBERTY. Reverse markers show a die gouge below the second T in TRUST and a die gouge between the P and L in PLURIBUS. The five die markers spread across both faces create a comprehensive attribution framework. Composed of copper-nickel clad (75% Cu, 25% Ni bonded to pure copper core) at 2.27 grams and 17.91 mm, proof dies at San Francisco receive careful preparation, making repunched mintmarks on proof coinage uncommon.
