Description

Fifteenth in the obverse doubled die census for the 1971-S Kennedy half dollar, DDO-015 displays light spread on WE TRUST, the Y of LIBERTY, and the digits 71 in the date on Gilroy Roberts's portrait of President John F. Kennedy. VarietyVista assigned identifiers UVC-363 and DMR-019, documenting three die stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed), Stage B where both obverse and reverse have progressed to mid die state (MDS), and Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The confirmed MDS designation for Stage B provides collectors with a documented intermediate die state for tracking production progression. This is identified as a proof striking, consistent with San Francisco's role as the exclusive proof production facility from 1968 onward. The notation that the obverse employs ODV-003 (Obverse Design Variant 003) indicates a specific master die lineage distinguishable from the more common obverse variants used for 1971-S proof production.
