Description

A dual variety die pairing carrying doubled die designations on both sides, WDDR-002 on the 1970-S Lincoln Memorial cent proof Large Date is struck from dies where the obverse is independently cataloged as WDDO-031 and the reverse as WDDR-002. This convergence is uncommon — both the obverse hub and reverse hub were impressed into their respective working dies with misalignment, creating doubling on both faces from the same die pair. On the obverse (WDDO-031), very close spread towards the center affects the date, LIBERTY, and IN GOD WE TRUST. On the reverse (WDDR-002), spread appears on the designer's initials FG and the second A in AMERICA. A die scratch on Lincoln's nose provides an obverse marker, while light scratches in the first Memorial bay offer reverse confirmation. Proof die surfaces render hub doubling with sharper definition than production dies.
