1970 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002
Error
Description
Documented by the Wexler Team as 1970 10-cent WDDR-002, this Roosevelt Dime variety resulted from Class V counterclockwise pivoted hub doubling with the rotation center at approximately 12 o'clock. The pivot from that high anchor point produced visible spread on ONE DIME and USA — elements near the bottom of the reverse where rotational displacement reaches maximum intensity. Class V doubling occurs when the hub rotates slightly between impressions, creating spread that increases with distance from the pivot center. John R. Sinnock's reverse places ONE DIME and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA in the lower field surrounding the oak and torch motif, and the selective involvement of just USA rather than the full inscription follows the predicted displacement gradient. The 1970 Philadelphia Roosevelt Dime was struck in clad composition. Collectors should examine ONE DIME and USA under magnification for the counterclockwise spread pattern consistent with this Class V pivot geometry.
