1970-D Doubled Die Reverse DDR-001

Description

DDR-001 on the 1970-D Roosevelt Dime carries cross-reference FS-801 and can be found in Mint Sets. Two distinct die pairings are recorded: UVC-535 / DMR-002 (Stages A–B, mintmark slightly right of center, EDS) and UVC-536 / DMR-003 (Stages C–D, obverse die changed, mintmark far right of center). The doubling covers UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the torch flame, outer leaves, dots, UNUM, E PLU of PLURIBUS, and DIME — a broad spread across the reverse. The mintmark shift from slightly-right to far-right between pairings is key for stage attribution. The 1970-D Roosevelt Dime is a clad (copper-nickel clad copper) issue; all Roosevelt Dimes have been clad since 1965. The FS-801 designation and Mint Set availability elevate DDR-001's collectibility relative to most Roosevelt Dime DDR varieties.
