Description

Notable for exhibiting triple spread on the stars beneath STATES, this 1969-D Kennedy Half Dollar DDR-007 goes beyond typical doubled die territory. While medium spread appears across the letters and stars under UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and light spread affects the stars between the heraldic eagle's rays, the stars specifically beneath STATES show a third impression — creating a triple-layered image visible under magnification. This triple spread phenomenon occurs when the hub contacted the die three times with slightly different alignments, producing three overlapping star images. The die is designated RDV-003 paired with ODV-002a in a Master Die Only (MDO) configuration. Three die stages are tracked under catalog codes UVC-398 and DMR-013. Stage A at early die state remains unconfirmed. Stage B documents both the reverse and obverse in mid-die state. Stage C at late die state is also unconfirmed. This 40% silver-clad Denver Mint half dollar was among the final years of silver content in the denomination. Cataloged by VarietyVista, DDR-007 stands out for its triple-spread stars, making it one of the more visually compelling DDR varieties in the late 1960s Kennedy series.
