1964 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-033

Description

Among the most celebrated Kennedy Half Dollar varieties, this 1964 Proof DDO-033 pairs the coveted Accented Hair obverse die variety (ODV-001) with a Straight G reverse (RDV-001) and is also listed as a dual variety with DDR-017. The Accented Hair design, featuring strengthened hair detail above Kennedy's ear that was softened partway through 1964 proof production at Jacqueline Kennedy's request, makes any Accented Hair die combination a key target for collectors. Medium quadruple spread appears on IN GOD and the date, with light double spread on WE TRUST and the Y of LIBERTY. Die markers include UVC-391 and DMR-053. Three die stages are documented: Stage A with obverse in Early Die State and reverse listed as DDR-017 in EDS, Stage B with both obverse and reverse in Mid-Die State, and Stage C in Late Die State (unconfirmed).
