1964 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-029
Error
Description
Distinguished by a light triple spread — evidence of three separate hub impressions on a single die — this 1964 Proof Kennedy Half Dollar DDO-029 is an uncommon variety type within an already celebrated series. The tripling is visible on WE TRUST, the digits 64 of the date, TY of LIBERTY, and the hair on the back of Kennedy's head. Triple spread varieties require three slightly misaligned hubbing impressions to create their characteristic layered appearance, making them inherently less common than standard doubled dies. This proof issue was struck from the Flared G reverse die pairing (ODV-002/RDV-002), distinguishing it from DDO-020 which uses the Straight G reverse. The die is also paired with DDR-011 on the reverse, meaning collectors can find both obverse and reverse doubling on coins from this particular die marriage. Stage A documentation confirms the obverse in early die state with the reverse DDR-011 also in early die state. Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-343 and DMR-044, this 90% silver proof variety from Kennedy's debut year offers collectors the unusual opportunity to study triple hub impressions on one of the most scrutinized dates in modern U.S. numismatics.
