Description

Struck as a Proof during the inaugural year of the Kennedy Half Dollar, DDO-008 features light doubling on WE TRUST, the date, and Kennedy's hair, with the most dramatic effect manifesting as a triple spread on TY of LIBERTY — three distinct letter impressions visible, elevating this beyond standard doubled die territory. Assigned UVC-013 and DMR-013, the low UVC number suggests this was among the earliest Kennedy varieties documented in the VarietyVista system. The obverse die is classified as ODV-002, paired with RDV-002, identified by a "Flared G" in the reverse lettering. Stage B carries a diagnostic gouge dot on the rim above Y of LIBERTY, distinguishing later-state specimens from Stage A. The 1964 proof Kennedy Half was struck in 90% silver with a proof mintage of 3,950,762 — enormous by proof standards, reflecting intense public demand following Kennedy's assassination.
