The 1964 Jefferson Nickel WDDR-005 carries a notable cataloging history: this variety was formerly listed as WDDR-224 before being reassigned to the WDDR-005 slot. The original WDDR-005 listing was delisted after researchers determined it represented a doubled working hub rather than a doubled working die — that earlier entry is now properly cataloged under WWHR-001. This reassignment underscores the self-correcting nature of the Wexler doubled die files and the importance of distinguishing between hub-level and die-level doubling. The current WDDR-005 displays a very close Class II constant spread on E PLURIBUS UNUM across Felix Schlag's Monticello reverse, where the primary and secondary impressions nearly overlap, requiring careful magnification to resolve the subtle broadening of letter strokes. Diagnostic reverse die markers include a small die dot above the S of CENTS and a semicircular die gouge below the N of MONTICELLO. No significant obverse markers have been noted.
