1964-D Doubled Die Obverse DDO-004

Description

Bearing the RDV-002 reverse die variety (Flared G) and cross-referenced as FS-104, the 1964-D Kennedy Half Dollar DDO-004 shows medium spread on IN GOD, LIB, and the hair around the R of LIBERTY. Struck in 90% silver during Kennedy's inaugural half dollar year, this variety carries catalog designations UVC-044 and DMR-006. Three die stages are documented. Stage A, at early-to-mid die state, shows a die scratch from the right leg to the second wing feather, a die scratch from the arrows to the right leg, and a die scratch from the middle talon of the claw to the arrows. Stage B places both obverse and reverse at MDS. Stage C shows both sides at LDS. The concentration of Stage A die scratches in the eagle's talon and arrow area provides a distinctive cluster of early-stage markers. The medium spread around LIBERTY and IN GOD on the obverse, combined with the Flared G reverse, creates a well-documented variety on this historic first-year silver issue.
