Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team, the 1963-D Washington Quarter WDDO-010 displays a spread directed toward the center on IN GOD WE TRUST, the date, the designer's initials JF, and the lower queue of Washington's hair — a convergent doubling pattern where design elements appear to shift inward toward the coin's center rather than outward toward the rim. Center-directed spreads result from specific hub alignment conditions during the die-making process, where the secondary impression is positioned slightly inside the primary. The obverse carries a short die gouge to the right of the lower back of the hair, providing a diagnostic marker for attribution. No other cross-references are currently known beyond the Wexler designation as 1963-D 25c WDDO-010, placing this as the tenth documented doubled die obverse for the Denver Mint date.
