1963-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-002

Description

Attributed by VarietyVista as UVC-425, DMR-004, this 1963 Denver Mint Roosevelt Dime displays a repunched mintmark with a D/D Northeast orientation, where the initial D punch was placed northeast of the corrected final position. Three die stages have been documented: Stage A (early die state), Stage B (mid-die state), and Stage C (late die state). The northeast displacement creates a secondary D impression visible above and to the right of the primary mintmark, a diagonal directional shift less commonly encountered than simple north or west orientations. As one of the final silver-composition Roosevelt Dimes before the 1965 alloy change, the 1963-D carries particular interest for collectors of pre-1965 silver varieties. Struck in 90% silver (0.900 fine), this coin is part of John R. Sinnock's Roosevelt Dime series that began in 1946. The Denver Mint continued hand-punching mintmarks throughout the early 1960s, and the D/D Northeast direction on RPM-002 provides a specific diagnostic that separates it from other repunched mintmark varieties documented for the 1963-D issue.
