1963-D Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-019

Description
Listed under the Wexler Variety ID 1963-D 1c WDDO-019, this Doubled Die Obverse of the 1963-D Lincoln Memorial Cent holds a particular genealogical distinction within the series: it is one of three documented WDDO varieties (along with WDDO-025 and WDDO-044) identified as having been produced from the doubled working hub WWHO-004. This means that the hub from which this die was sunk already carried a doubled image, and the die inherited that doubling as a baseline before any additional die-level anomalies could occur. Hub-inherited doubling tends to appear identical across all daughter dies made from the same hub, differing only in the die markers that each working die acquires individually during its manufacture and service. For collectors, this lineage provides a powerful attribution shortcut: if a candidate coin shows the WWHO-004 hub doubling pattern on the date but its die markers do not match WDDO-019, it may belong to one of the other WWHO-004 daughter varieties. Attributed by the Wexler Team, this variety has no additional cross-references currently known beyond the Wexler catalog. The Denver Mint produced 1,774,020,400 cents in 1963, and the existence of a doubled working hub among the tooling used for that production implies that the hub's doubling was subtle enough to pass quality control inspection — a reminder that not all hubbing anomalies are visually dramatic. Examination under at least 7x magnification is recommended, with attention to the date area where the WWHO-004 signature is expected to manifest. The coin was struck on a 95% copper and 5% zinc planchet bearing Brenner's obverse and Gasparro's Memorial reverse.
