1960 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-008
ErrorDescription
The Small Date counterpart to the Large Date listing, WDDR-008 on the 1960 Lincoln Memorial Cent Small Date regular strike documents this doubled die reverse variety as it appears under the later hub type introduced partway through Philadelphia's 1960 cent production. A close spread shows on the designer's initials and the lower part of the letters in ONE CENT, matching the reverse doubling characteristics recorded on the Large Date version that shares the same Wexler number. The obverse die carries the same detailed set of markers documented on the Large Date entry: a small die gouge to the left of the G in GOD, a die scratch running southwest from the center of the nine in the date, die scratches running north-northeast from the top of the 19, parallel die scratches running east-northeast from the lower front of the chin, and other die scratches throughout the obverse. No significant reverse die markers have been noted. The Small Date hub is identified by the more uniformly proportioned date numerals, particularly the 1 digit which sits at a similar height to the other numbers rather than towering above them as on the Large Date. Collectors assembling a complete set of 1960 DDR varieties will want both hub variants of WDDR-008 to document the full scope of this doubled die across the year's production.
