1960 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-016
ErrorDescription
Displaying a very close spread towards the center on the date and WE TRUST, with additional doubling on the left side of the N in IN, WDDO-016 on the 1960 Lincoln Memorial Cent Large Date affects multiple obverse text elements simultaneously. The centerward spread — characteristic of Class II hub doubling — means the secondary hub impression was rotated slightly relative to the primary, with the inward displacement visible on both the date numerals and the motto. A strong die gouge extending west-northwest from the upper left of the S in TRUST serves as a particularly useful attribution marker, and numerous short die scratches run west from the back of the bust, with other die scratches scattered across the obverse providing additional confirmation points. No significant reverse die markers have been identified. Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 1960 1¢ WDDO-016 with no other known cross-references, this variety offers collectors multiple areas to examine when confirming the doubled die, with the date and WE TRUST providing the clearest views of the centerward spread.
