1960-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-001

Description

As the primary catalog entry for the 1960-D date, this VarietyVista-documented Washington Silver Quarter shows a D/D/D Northeast, South triple-punched mintmark indicating at least three separate punch applications. Die markers UVC-0971 / DMR-003 track four stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with a die crack from the second T of STATES through IBUS to wing at EMDS, die crack down eagle's right wing, and die crack across bust to queue extending in an upward curve across lower field at EMDS; Stage C at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage D at LDS (unconfirmed). The bust-to-queue die crack curving across the lower field is an unusual crack trajectory. Designed by John Flanagan, struck in 90% silver and 10% copper at 6.25 grams and 24.3 mm, the 1960-D was produced during the final years of silver quarter production before the Coinage Act of 1965.
