Description

Distinguished by an extra eyelid visible just below Lincoln's normal eyelid, WDDO-006 offers one of the more visually distinctive doubled die diagnostics among 1959 cent varieties. Submitted by Brian Ribar, this variety carries the Wexler designation 1959 1c WDDO-006 with no currently known cross-references to other attribution services. The die passed through multiple obverse stages: Stage A shows a die scratch arcing from west to east through the lower letters of GOD, a small die gouge above the second nine in the date, and a die gouge extending from the rim to the left of the first T in TRUST. Stage B adds parallel die scratches running south from the F in OF and parallel scratches running SE from the M in AMERICA on the reverse. Reverse die markers include numerous horizontal scratches above the statue of Lincoln and a scratch running ENE from the right roof to the bottom left of the E in AMERICA, along with other scratches found throughout the reverse. The extra eyelid feature is best observed under 10x or greater magnification.
