Description

Completing the upper range of the 1959-D doubled eyelid series documented here, WDDO-013 presents the characteristic extra eyelid below the normal one, attributed by the Wexler Team. The obverse diagnostics include parallel die scratches running from the upper E in WE to the upper first T in TRUST, along with die scratches running east to west through the upper ear. The reverse carries a die gouge inside the C in AMERICA. The parallel scratch pattern near TRUST is particularly useful as a screening marker, since it can be spotted while scanning the legend area before moving to the more time-consuming eyelid examination. As one of the higher-numbered WDDO listings for the date, WDDO-013 represents a later discovery in the ongoing documentation of 1959-D doubled die obverse varieties.
