1959-D Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-009
ErrorDescription
Standing apart from other members of the 1959-D doubled eyelid group, WDDO-009 combines the expected extra eyelid below the normal one with additional doubling visible inside the upper first nine in the date. This dual-area doubling—portrait and date—gives WDDO-009 broader visual appeal than varieties showing only the eyelid effect. Cataloged by the Wexler Team, the obverse diagnostic is a small die gouge appearing as a dot midway between the lower R and U in TRUST, while the reverse carries a small die gouge above the Memorial roof south of the right dot. The date doubling inside the numeral nine offers cherry-pickers a second confirmation point beyond the eyelid, increasing attribution confidence and making this one of the more satisfying 1959-D varieties to hunt for in circulated rolls.
