1959-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-005
ErrorDescription
Attributed by Brian A. Ribar as WDDR-005, this 1959-D Jefferson nickel presents Class II (Distorted Hub Doubling) with a close spread on both E PLURIBUS UNUM and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA—affecting two major reverse legends simultaneously. The obverse carries two large die dents to the left of the L of LIBERTY, immediately visible markers that make this variety one of the easiest to screen in the 1959-D series. On the reverse, a short die gouge extends from the lower right tip of the second L of MONTICELLO, and a slanted die scratch runs between the E and P of E PLURIBUS UNUM. The dual-legend doubling combined with the prominent obverse dents gives WDDR-005 strong visual presence from both sides of the coin, a quality that appeals to collectors who display their varieties and want readily apparent diagnostics.
