Description
Cataloged by the Wexler Team, this 1958-D Jefferson Nickel displays a D/D Tilted (Rotated) repunched mintmark with the secondary D both displaced and angularly offset. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 1958-D 5-cent WRPM-005. Obverse markers: a die scratch runs SW from the chin. Reverse markers: a nearly horizontal die scratch above the left porch of Monticello, a small die gouge (dot) above S in CENTS, and SW/NE die scratches above OF AMERICA. Multiple reverse die scratches across different areas provide comprehensive die fingerprinting. Composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, Felix Schlag's design was struck at the Denver Mint in 1958. This represents one of the later RPM varieties before the 1965-67 mintmark-less period halted RPM production.
