Description

Submitted by David Mulberry and cataloged by the Wexler Team as WRPM-009, this 1957-D Roosevelt Dime shows a D over D mintmark in a tilted or rotated configuration — evidence that the mintmark punch was applied to the working die at two different angles during manufacture. Obverse die markers include a die gouge running SSW from the upper right side of the last T in TRUST, a NE/SW die scratch above the upper left side of the G in GOD, and a medium die chip on the nose above the nostril. On the reverse, a die scratch runs south from the lower left side of the E in STATES to the left side of the flame. The 1957-D Roosevelt Dime had a Denver Mint production of approximately 113.4 million coins, a large mintage that kept this date circulating for decades and makes cherrypicking for WRPM-009 practical when sorting through circulated dimes. The Roosevelt Dime has been produced since 1946, honoring President Franklin D. Roosevelt's leadership during World War II and his connection to the March of Dimes. The Wexler Variety ID is 1957-D 10¢ WRPM-009.
