Description
As the primary Wexler-cataloged RPM for the 1957-D Jefferson Nickel, WRPM-001 displays a D/D Tilted (Rotated) displacement where the secondary D is both positionally shifted and angularly offset. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 1957-D 5-cent WRPM-001. Obverse markers: a short vertical die scratch to the left of the bridge of the nose. Reverse markers: a die scratch SW from the bottom left of M in MONTICELLO and a light die scratch SW/NE through the upper O in OF. Composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, struck at the Denver Mint in 1957 as Felix Schlag's Monticello reverse approached its twentieth year of production. The tilted RPM produces a non-parallel overlap with varying separation around the D letter's perimeter, maximum at points farthest from the rotation axis.
